The Sand Prairie - NE Corner, by the Entrance

The sand prairie is made up of southwest Wisconsin native plants.
Everything planted in this corner, grows to its maximum potential!
Ground cloth was placed on top of the clay soil, then 5 inches of sand.
Each plant was plugged in, down into the clay.
Every Fall the seeds are collected for use on the 3-acre prairie.

Compass Plant, Prairie Dock, Cup Plant, Big Bluestem, Little Blue, Butterfly Weed, Rattlesnake Master,
Side Oats Gramma, Indian Grass, Indigo, Spiderwort, Blue Flag Iris, Pear Cacti, Hoary Puccoon,
Pasque Flower, Lupine, Poppy Mallow, Birdsfoot Violet, and even a Green Dragon in a shady spot!

A few cacti from Colorado, along with my rock collection (petrified wood and other non-WI rocks)
can be spotted in the garden.  :-)
