I developed a redness on my right leg above the ankle in late December 1999. My doctor was not available and I was sent to his "on-call" doctor who said that I had an infection. She gave me 14 tablets of Cipro (antibiotic) and advised me to see my doctor. I developed a rash on both legs and arms with intense itching. My doctor said that I appeared to have a brown recluse spider bite, and referred me to a dermatologist whom I saw in February. He said I had a "ID" (identity) infection and prescribed Prednisone (10 tablets), 14 capsules of Cephalexin, and Fluocinonide ointment. On March 7, 2000 he said I was cured, but stated that the spot on my leg (now reduced in size) was probably permanent. The spot increased in size and the itching on my arms returned. Again, my doctor was not available and the "on call" doctor prescribed 10 tablets of Levaquin (another antibiotic) and advised me to see my doctor.I saw my doctor in August (the spot still red and getting larger with itching on legs and arms) and he gave me prescribtions for Cepphalexin and Fluocinonide ointment for one week, and renewed it for a second week. My doctor then referred me to the dermatologist I had seen in February, and when his first appointment was more than a month away I was referred to another dermatologist (I am served by an HMO) whom I visited today, August 24, 2000. This doctor gave me a prescription for Diprolene AF cream, stated that I appear to have eczema and asked me to return in a week. I will apply the cream and return for my appointment. Hopefully I will get rid of the red spot and the itching, but I have my doubts.

I have no picture to share. When My doctor said BRS i searched the web and found a site which had a picture, and the picture looked like my leg - dark red with a dark spot at the center.. Also, there was an indention and fellow bird-watchers said, "It looks like a spider bite. My itching has lasted for months and I still have a rash on my legs and arms. The current application of cream has helped a lot. Whatever the cause I'll be glad when I return to norma.
