My daughter got bit in her sleep. She woke up with her tummy sore, but did not look at it at the time. She went to work, came home a few hours later, showed me her tummy, with a headache, fever, extreme pain on the location. It looked purple where the bite was at, and redness around it about as big as a fist. I have seen these kinds of bites and knew, rushed her to the ER. In Kansas those spiders run rampant around here and the Dr. knew what it was when he saw it. It has been 4 days since she was bit, oozing still, a little black still at the edges, not as swollen around the bite but still very painful. The skin is falling off at the site and all around it. To me, it doesn't look like it is healing like it should and will have to take her to see someone else as a follow up, if anything for more meds. She has also developed hives from this, all over her body. I have seen some bad bites, for real and on here, and hers is bad. She is still feeling sick at her stomach, not sure if thats from the thought of the bite, it scares her, or she is really feeling sick. I asked her and she isn't sure herself. She is still sluggish, not alot of energy. Her boss has been very understanding as his wife was bit a few years ago and it took her months to feel normal. I will post pictures as soon as I get them on here. Nance
Update:10/02/04 The site is now black, still swollen, not as sore, but seems to pull the skin making it VERY tender. She will need to see the Dr next week for more meds and to make sure we are healing properly.
Update: 11/13/04 Sadly my daughter needs debriding and outpatient skin grafting. Her bite has not healed not gotten better. The black skin came off and has been raw ever since. She still has bacteria. I can't stress enough that Drs need to know more on this type of bite as my daughter was very hurt and insulted by the Dr that saw her. He claims it hasn't gotten better because of her!! That is not true, we all know how these bites don't heal properly. We have done everything and then some to get this thing to heal but to no avail. I will update more later.
