Dear Mr. Smigielski,

I have received a copy of the statement adopted by the Spring Green Village Board expressing the trustees’ generous offer to facilitate a working session regarding the Sauk County proposal to construct a communications tower in the Spring Green area. On behalf of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, I graciously accept the offer and would welcome the opportunity for further discourse on this matter. I am available to meet with the village trustees or staff whenever possible barring previously scheduled commitments.

As you may know, the Riverway Board has expressed concern regarding the adverse aesthetic impact on the Riverway that a 250-tower with strobe light and red beacon light would have if constructed at the Thuli Road site. However, it is also important to emphasize that the Riverway Board recognizes and supports Sauk County’s goal to enhance communications in the Spring Green area. While some persons have attempted to portray the issue as “safety vs. scenery”, this is not the case at all. Rather, it is the desire of the Riverway Board to find a “win-win” paradigm that accomplishes both the communications enhancement objectives of the county while also protecting the scenic quality of the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway. I remain optimistic that such a solution can be found and believe the Village of Spring Green can play a crucial role in helping all involved find that equitable solution.
