We’ve been most distressed by the flooding in our township and have been following the newspaper reports of the resultant meetings. Many mistakes have been made that now must be corrected. A major problem was allowing homes to be built in a known floodplain and then not properly controlling for water. We now must work together to protect against such losses in the future. This requires straightforward, honest communication between you and town residents.
As we, the town, resolve a lot of difficult issues, we ask you to identify the lawyer to which you refer to in meetings. Is he/she someone you as individuals hired? Or, is the lawyer hired by the town and, therefore, paid for by the town? If so, who is the person and why isn’t he/she at meetings to answer the questions of residents? Is there a budget item to pay for this person?
For whatever reason, your ability to function as town trustees seems constrained because of attorney advice. At a time when it is critically important for the town to act as quickly and effectively as possible, you are unable to deal openly with town residents. This must change.
Thank you for your prompt reply.
