Dear Editor
At this time I would like to thank you for all the great coverage you have given to the Sand Pit issue. I also would like to thank the Plan Commission for following the comprehensive plan to it’s fullest intent. As Mr. Schmidt has stated in the Baraboo News Republic, because the comprehensive plan did not address mineral extraction, it was a pretty cut and dried on how we had to decide.
There was also a statement in this same paper that said it was not the pressure of the activists that convinced us to vote no (the plan commission) it was the change of zoning. There was one comment that did upset me, it is were it was stated that at the Public Hearing (Dec. 5th) if other people come forward in favor of this the Town Board will have to reconsider our vote. Let’s remember why you voted NO the first time. It was because it did not fit the comprehensive plan.
Further more why would a few more people showing up in favor of the pit be more important then the people who have been showing up for the past three months not in favor? Besides the 100 or so people showing up for the Plan Commission meetings, we the River Valley Concerned Citizens Group have over 700 signed petitions against the Sand Pit. I think the voice of the people has already spoken.
I urge the Spring Green Town Board members to stay united with their fellow Plan Commission partners when it comes time to vote Dec. 7th. I am sure that the Town Comprehensive plan will not have be rewritten between Nov. 14th and Dec. 7th. Remember a Democracy is “The voice of the People”
