Dear Editor,
I congratulate and thank the Spring Green Plan Commission members for their decision to reject the application of the Kraemer Company for the development of a long-term sand pit along State Highway 60 and Jones Road.
The application provided by the Kraemer Company was seriously in violation of the adopted Spring Green Comprehensive Plan and that of the concerns of 700 plus signatures by the River Valley Concerned Citizens petition.
The public opposed this application on the grounds that it did not meet with the structure of the Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted to protect and enhance the quality of life for our residents today and future generations.
The application submitted by the Kraemer Company to the Plan Commission was incomplete and against the rules and regulations of the State of Department of Wisconsin Regulation and Registration as the submittal was done by a non-registered State of Wisconsin geologist.
As quoted in the Baraboo News Republic, "We know there's a number objecting to it and only Kraemer's been in favor of it," Commissioner Jerry Schmidt said Wednesday. "If other people come forward and say, 'Hey, we really want it,' then we'll have to take another look at it."
As stated in the motion to deny the application, the deciding factor was the non-compliance with the Spring Green Comprehensive Plan. If the 700 plus in opposition did not influence the Plan Commission, how can Mr. Schmidt now state they would take another look at the application if there were people in favor of the sand pit?
The next steps are for a Public Comment session scheduled for Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 PM and the Town Board Meeting to vote on the application Thursday, December 7 at 7:00 PM. Both meetings are to be held at the Spring Green Town Hall. Plan to attend and contribute to our community.
Regards,
Mike Birr
