Back to No Spring Green Sand Pit

Rosemary Radel's Letter to the Editor - November 2, 2006

Dear Editor

I have been sitting back watching and reading my family and neighbors fight against the proposed sand pit. I think it is time for me to share my feelings with your readers.

I got married and came to this area in 1948, since then I have raised a family and dealt with the death of my Husband. Looking back Lloyd and I were able to raise four children off of our cattle and crop land. My crop land is directly across from the proposed pit. I have been hearing what poor land is located on the proposed site. It must not be as bad as some people claim because we made a living and only received half of the income.

I am often asked why I have never sold my farm, and my response is I could be looking at my bank statement, or I can be looking out my window overseeing the crops and the beautiful scenery that surrounds them. I fear that the noise and heavy truck traffic will be unbearable. One of my true enjoyments is to talk to my neighbors as they take there daily walks past my home, and head down the road were the proposed pit is to be located. If the pit becomes reality people will start walking the other direction, and I will become that much more alone.

I urge the Plan Commission  and Town Board to allow my Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren to enjoy what I have over the last 58 years.
